Ninh Thuan, in in South-Central Coast, is famous for white-sand beaches, vast gardens of grapes, onions and peppers. There are a great number of the Cham ethnic minority people who live in Ninh Thuan. There are a lot of beautiful sighseeings to visit in Ninh Thuan.

 

  • THE BEST TIME TO GO TO NINH THUAN

 

The climate is a combination of the tropical monsoon and dry and windy weather. It is hot, dry, windy all of year. There is two seasons: the rain season lasts from May to November, the dry season lasts from December to April. Annual average temperature is 27ºC. You can go to Ninh thuan ai any time you like because each season has its own unique beauty.

  1. HOW TO GET TO NINH THUAN:

Phan Rang – Thap Cham City is 105km from Nha Trang, 110km from Da Lat, 350km from Ho Chi Minh City and 1.382km from Hanoi. Phan Rang Town is on North – South Express Train, National Highway No.1A and National Highway No.27. Tourists can reach Ninh thuan by cars, motorbikes, coaches, trains or planes

    • By plane/air: Take flights to Cam Ranh International Airport. From the Cam ranh Airport, you can hire coaches, cars, mortobikes, taxi, … to go to Phan Rang – Ninh Thuan which is 60 km far from Cam ranh International airport.

 

  • By train:

 

  • From Ho Chi Minh City: There are 7 trains (SE2, SE4, SE6, SE8, SE22, SNT2, TN2) to go to Thap Cham – Ninh Thuan from Ho Chi Minh City everyday. It takes about 4 hours for the Journeys. The train ticket costs from 101.000 VND – 638.000 VND (US$4-US$25.5), basing on each kind of seats or beds.
  • From Hanoi: There are 5 trains (SE1, SE3, SE7, SE5, TN1) to go to Thap Cham – Ninh Thuan from Hanoi with the ticket cost of 400.000 VND – 1.400.000VND (about US$ 16 – US$56). You wil spend from 25 to 30 hours to go from Hanoi to Thap Cham Station.

 

  • By coach/bus:

 

  • From Ho Chi Minh City: Take bus or coach from Mien Dong Bus Station or Que Huong bus station with the price of ticket: 150.000 VND (US$6). Coaches to Phan Rang often run at night from 21:00 and arrive at 4:00.
  • From Nha Trang: Take a 2.5-hour bus or a coach in The Nha Trang Southen Bus Station at Km 6 Road 23/10, Vinh Trung,Nha Trang, the cost of ticket is about 60.000VND (US$2.5). Or you can go by coaches from Mai Linh company or Phuong Trang Company.

 

  • By Motobike or car:

 

  • At the Cam Ranh Airport, you can hire 4-seat cars with the cost of 30USS$ to go to Phan Rang and about 50USS$ per day to visit Ninh thuan province. Or hiring motorbikes (around US$6 per day).

 

  • How to go in Ninh Thuan

 

In general, it is not safe for foreigners to rent motorbikes in Vietnam. Phan Rang might be the exception, as the roads near the beach are wide and empty. Most resorts can rent one to you for about $7/day. We still recommend a taxi or bus or hiring cars if you plan on visiting the Cham Temples or Vinh Hy Bay. If you stay at a resort in the center of the bay, you can walk along the beach or the road lining the beach for some light exploring. Taxis are easy to find and Mai Linh Taxi and Phan Rang Taxi have meters.

Phan Rang is also famous for its chicken and rice. The dish is fairly simple, just boiled chicken, rice, and a spicy fish sauce. You can find this dish in many of the local restaurants around Phan Rang.

  • Grape: is one of famous specialities in NInh Thuan, the climate in Ninh Thuan is surprisingly suitable for grape to grow. August and September are the time for grapes to ripe.
  • Chicken rice: because of extreme climate: hot and dry, the chicken is strong and their meat is tough and solid, yet sweet and flavorful. When eating Phan Rang chicken, feel free to use your hand to shred the meat and dip it into the sauce. Eating chicken and rice at the same time will help you recognize the sweet of the chicken, the fat of the rice.
  • Seven dishes of iguanas:

Iguanas are a type of reptiles live in hot sand dunes, and extremely fast. Their meat is white like chicken meat, yet sweeter, softer; their bones are soft, almost like tendons. From iguanas, there are seven dishes can be made of them: grilled, salad, porridge, chopped meat with rice paper, tamarind hot pot, roasted and steamed. Each will give you a different experience.

 

  • One-sunny-day squid

 

In anywhere near the sea in Vietnam, you can meet one-sunny-day squid. However, the one-sunny-day squid in Ninh Thuan is delicious, soft and sweet thanks to the wind, the sun and the salt from the sea here. The outside of the squid is dried and the inside is still fresh, and when grilled, the squid is still fresh, soft and white.

When grilling the squid, you have to adjust the fire so the fire is not too big and also use new coal to grill the squids. The squid, from the color white, will turn to yellow, which looks very tasty too. With a perfect fire, the squid will be cooked both in and outside, but if the fire is old, the squid will be only cooked on the outside. You will not need any kind of sauce beside the hot chili sauce. When eating the squid, you will taste the sweet of the squid combines with the hot of the chili.

 

  • Hat snail salad

 

There are many ways to cook the snail, simplest are to boil or grill. A more complicated dish of the snail would be the salad. After washing the snails, you will also need to boil them. Using a pair of chopsticks to turn the snails so the snails can be completely cooked, you will also need to remove the waste of the snail, which has a green color. You will also want to mince the snail so that you can eat it easier. Ingredients to mix with the snail consist of bacon, sliced cucumber, cilantro, smashed peanut, fried onions. The snail also needs lemon juice mix with sugar and bit of fish sauce so the sauce can be sour and sweet. Pouring the sauce on top of the snail, bacon, cucumber and cilantro, mixing everything together and putting some peanut and fried onions on top and you will have a complete snail salad.

The sauce to dip the salad is made of the best fish sauce of Ca Na, with a bit of garlic, lemon, and chili to increase the flavor. Here, you can also have some shrimp crackers and sesame to eat with the salad. You will want to prepare an empty belly before eating this, because you will want more.

 

  • Seafood

 

Visiting the city of Phan Rang—Cham Tower, you should definitely try the wonderful seafood of the region such as many type of crabs, squid, endless type of sea snails like oysters, scallops, fish and shrimp. Fresh seafood boiled or grilled with a bit of green onion and peanut, is the best. Remember not to add to much extra ingredients to keep the meal original.

 

  • Goat and lamb

 

Beside from the seafood, Ninh Thuan is also famous for its herds of lamb and goat which produce lots of delicious dishes.

There are many famous goat and lamb dishes in Ninh Thuan like grilled lamb, roasted lamb, or seven dishes of goat, goat hot pot. Lamb and goat is, not only delicious, but also good for your health.

 

  • Grilled rice paper cake with oiled green onions

 

You should definitely have to try the delightful grilled rice paper with oil green onions, a bucolic dish yet delicious and unique. The rice paper is made of the best rice flour combining with sesame, and is coated with the perfect thickness. Choosing the shrimp sauce, you will want the most delicious, and add in some other ingredients to increase the flavor.

 

  • Vietnamese traditional pancake (Bánh xèo)

 

Ninh Thuan, along with so many cuisines, is also a great destination for Vietnamese pancakes lovers.

Different from many other places, the Ninh Thuan pancake is cooked in clay mold, and placed in a bigger oven, which can hold four to five molds. The cake doesn’t need a lot of oil to coat the mold, and just enough amount of flour to make the cake crunchy, not soft. When eating the cake, you should feel free to add in peanut, bean sprouts, and dip the cake in the amazing sauce.

The pancakes are usually served with some sprouts, shrimps, or meat. The locals don’t use the cake to make a roll like the people in the South but drop the cake right in the sauce.

 

  • Shrimp cake

 

The sour, spicy and softness of the cake will make you remember it forever.

The cake is made of rice flour mixed with some sticky rice flour, and baked on a very small, custom designed mold. The experience chef will know how to remove the cake from the mold intact, and the cake has to be soft and the crust is yellow, not burnt. Using the clay mold to bake, the cake doesn’t use a lot of oil.

The sauce used to eat with the cake varies from peanut sauce, vinegar sauce, or fish broth. The vinegar sauce is made of vinegar, a bit of tamarind, pineapple, to make the sauce sour and reduce the salty. After removing the cake from the mold, dipping into the oil grass onion, you will be able to taste the sweet of the shrimp, the fat of the eggs, the crunchy crust, the spicy chili sauce, and the sour of raw mango that will make you hungry for more.

 

  • Fish rolls soup cake

 

Fish rolls soup cake is a combination of fish, shrimp, and the broth of the soup made of fish. The special feature is the soup cake made from the rice flour, which is only a little bit bigger than the normal noodle. The broth is sweet thanks to the fish bones, which is also the key characteristic of the meal. The soup cake is cooked with fish rolls. The fillet of the fish is used to make the rolls, and the rolls are either fried or boiled. The fire is small so the broth can be clear, less fat, just enough to heat up the soup cake and the fish rolls. The sweet of the yellow fish rolls, the fat of the white soup cake, the green of cilantro, the bold flavor of pepper are all combined to create a perfect cuisine.

Eating it hot and slowly, feeling the flavors mixed together, you will definitely want a second for sure.

 

  • The Sakaya Restaurant at the Bau Truc Resort is highly recommended. The restaurant is open air and located on the beach, unlike many of the other resort dining options. The food is relatively inexpensive with most dishes being around $4 and a beer costing $1. Stick with the Vietnamese dishes and stay away from their attempts at western food.

  • Ca Na beach – the best beautiful beach in the South of Vietnam: Ca Na beach is located next to a part of 1A highroad, which is far 30m from Phan Rang city in the South. The visitors have better go to this beach by motorbike from Phan Rang city for 40mins. The name of this beach named after the ancient place of the Cham Ethnic. This place is one of the most attractive tourism destinations in Vietnam with a combination of many types of tourism such as ecotourism, cultural tourism and food tourism. The scenery in Ca Na is magnificent with the clean, blue sea, covered by the white sandbank and the mountains at the back. The atmosphere in Ca Na is also fresh and cool that makes the visitors feel comfortable and refreshed. Furthermore, the night-time on this beach is awesome, especially when there is moonlight. The sound of the wind and waves are mixed to become a harmonic song that cannot be forgotten.    

 

 

  • Before the beach is the majestic mountain with many old trees which has existed for a long time with the hard weather of Phan Rang. Many visitors compared to these rocks getting in line and extending to the beach like albatrosses plays on the beach.
  • Ca Na is also fascinating with its cultural attractions.  A large number of Cham people still live here, and they still preserve many traditional elements of their culture. Therefore, visitors can learn more about the history of Champa Kingdom and understand more about the culture of Cham people in Vietnam. Moreover, the beach is a paradise of seafood with diverse kinds of fresh and tasty species; hence, travelers have the chance to taste the dishes that they might have never eaten before, which makes this place even more unforgettable.
  • One of special activity that attracts many visitors there is fish cuttle-fish in the evening. After dark, the electronic light from boats makes this beach shine with many different colors. The light catches cuttle-fishers’s attention, so visitors can easily fish cuttle-fishes when they are ready with fishing-rod and bait.
  • In the night without the appearance of moon, travelers can easily fish a lot of cuttle-fishes, but in the full moon nights travelers can enjoy romantic atmosphere with the moon, the sky and the beach.

 

  • Dinh Headland: Located in Phuoc Dinh Commune in Thuan Nam District, about 45km from Phan Rang City to the south, Dinh Headland now is easily to approach by road. There is a coastal road of 106km put into operation. However, to reach the headland, tourists have to undergo the extreme hot weather, pass by sand dunes, and slopes. These harsh experiences make tourists feel tired. Once overcoming above difficulties, tourists will be paid with wonderful pristine and serene seascapes. At the foot the lighthouse, there are stunning beaches with white smooth sand fields, or gentle sand dunes along the mountainside, making tourists lured into their beauty.

 

  • Ninh Chu Beach: is one of the most beautiful beaches in Vietnam. It is a wonderful place to admire the seascape. Ninh Chu Beach is about 5km from the city center. It is one of charming beaches in Vietnam. The beach belongs to Phan Rang Bay. Ninh Chu is a crescent shaped white sand beach which has a wide stretching continental shelf making it safe for swimming and water games. The beach is still remote and remains its pristine beauties. It is covered by mountains running towards the sea. In the morning, Ninh Chu becomes exciting with sounds of fishermen’s life. In the afternoon, the beach is gentle and serene in romantic light of sunset. Ninh Chu Beach also has many hotels from luxury to budget, meeting the demand of many tourists
  • Binh Son Sea Park, creates a new appearance for Ninh Chu, is built on a vast area just right next to Binh Son beach. The whole complex is one kilometer away from Ninh Chu beach. Thanks to the near location of the park, the city center air is always fresh and cool. The local people come to the park and to walk and swim very often.
  • Vinh Hy Bay: people give Vinh Hy the name as “Ha Long Bay of Central Vietnam. And indeed the bay deserves the name in an absolutely different aspect. Being surrounded by limestone mountains hand hills, the sea in the bay is calmer so the water color is always emerald blue. The bay is about 40km away from city center on the northeast, via highway 702. You will pass Ninh Chu beach, a side is blue sea and the other is vast grass fields, a sheep grazing area, a salt marsh…. And Vinh Hy, the finest site of your route appears in the end of the way. The beaches in Vinh Hy is white, the sea is blue lying under Chua Mountain national park on the utmost point in the west. From the low hills and mountains, you will enjoy the spectacular panoramic view of the bay. The national park is known for its various kinds of terrain such as mountain, hill, sediment, desert, and coast. There are 6 kinds of forest from arid kind to subtropical; 100 species of wild orchids; and an intact coral reef of which there are 46 new found species of coral. Come to Vinh Hy, diving to explore the coral reef here is something you can’t miss. Seafood is various, healthy and very delicious. ”. Along Provincial Road 702, travelers pass spectacular and poetic roads which lead to the coastline, or to deeper in crags, and towering mountains. Then, the scenery of villages, white immense salt fields appears amazingly. And, Vinh Hy Bay comes into view as a wonderful picture which puts traveler insight and attracts them. Once coming to Vinh Hy Bay, apart from taking part in scuba diving tours, travelers can explore the beach by wandering and taking stunning photos, dipping in cool and turquoise water of Ba Dien Beach, tasting delicious seafood, or joining windsurfing.
  • Rai (Otto) Cave: In the Road 702 to Vinh Hy Bay, Hang Rai Cave is situated on the left of the first bridge in Thai An Hamlet, Vinh Hai Commune, about 35km from the city center. This site has a very unique and exotic landscape and people, when looking at the pictures of the place, often deny that it is somewhere in Vietnam. Anyone who is a photography lover can’t miss this place. Many famous photographers come here to “hunt” the best scenery of dawn or moss season. Rai Cave actually is a complex of reef, rocks, beach and cave. The rock and reef setting is so special combined with the blue sea water of Hang Rai beach. The scenery of sunset or dawn on Hang Rai beach is always magical when the vast space literally is covered in a purplish or pinkish color. The cave is also very interesting to discover. Or if you want some adventure, fishing, climbing or trekking is also possible.
  • Hon Do: is a new attraction in Ninh Thuan. From the city center to Vinh Hy Bay about 20km, in My Hiep Hamlet in Thanh Hai Commune (Ninh Hai District), traveling along a sand road will lead to Hon Do. Coming here in the morning, the first thing puts tourists insight is the exciting life of local fishermen. Tourists can join to harvest fish with these locals.   • Binh Tien Beach: is known as the most beautiful beach in Vietnam, always compared to a sleeping beauty. The beach belongs to Cam Ranh bay, located about 15km from Vinh Hy bay and 70 km from Nha Trang. Being surrounded by mountains, the sea in the beach is calm and peaceful, very suitable for overnight camping, swimming, fishing and water games. The sand bank is long, white and clean and the breezes are fresh and tender. All of these things would make your summer time even more perfect.
  • Nam Cuong sandhills: one of the typical characteristics of Ninh Thuan is hot and dry, lesser rainfall compared to surrounding provinces. That kind of condition is just favorable for deserts to be formed. Down to the south of Ninh Thuan, Nam Cuong sandhills area is a specialty of the province that you can’t find anywhere else. With an area of over 700ha, sand dunes in Nam Cuong stretch endlessly. The most interesting thing in Nam Cuong is serene atmosphere. Surroundings are mountains, sea, and villages. The best time to get around Nam Cuong is in early morning or late afternoon. The sandhill is so vast and white running out to the horizon. Only in a desert, the sky fully radiate in all its intimidating and majestic beauty. Visit Nam Cuong sandhill in summer time, you will witness with your own eyes the high and immense blue sky and the endless ocean of sands.
  • Chua Mountain National Park: is situated on a wide, mountainous promontory, which projects into the South China Sea between Cam Ranh and Phan Rang bays. Highest peak is Chua Mountain which reaches up to 1,039m above sea. The total area of the park comprising 4 zones: strict forest protection area, forest rehabilitation and administration, services area and buffer zone. The park also has a protected marine area of 7,352 ha. Nui Chua National Park is appreciated for its wide range of biodiversity and scenic landscape. Ecotourism activities available in this area include hiking, swimming in streams and waterholes, camping, and learning about the culture and lifestyles of the local Raglay people.
  • Po Klong Garai Temples: is a religious area that was built by Cham people. This complex is the last relics that remain intact of Cham architecture in Vietnam. These towers are located on Trau Mountain, 9km away from center city in the west. The whole complex was built by Cham bricks that means there was no need to use cement. The bricks were wetted with water and pressed together and left for some time, they would be glued together very tightly. This is considered as one of the most secretive technique of Cham people. Besides, the sculptural textures were well made, unique and carrying many symbolic meanings of Cham religions. Come to Po Klong Garai, you will be told the old legend of Cham people about the tower to remember the ancient culture that once was powerful and beautiful. Coming here, tourists can have an opportunity to explore about the culture and history of Champa Kingdom, admire flamingo flocks flying to the south of the historical relics, and record marvelous sunset from Ngoan Muc Pass
  • Po Rome Tower: Po Rome Tower was built in 17th century on a high hill in Ninh Phuoc which is 15km far from Phan Rang Borough. This is one of the biggest tower of Champa people, and also the last of the Champa Kingdom. The special point about this tower is that it was not created to worship any god in the culture of Champa, but King Po Rome, a famous king that is considered a god, and his queens. Annually, the Cham people here still come to the tower on their holidays and when rites are performed.

 

 

  • Compared to other Champa Tower, the design of Po Rome Tower is less delicate and extravagant in terms of decoration. The tower and its decorations are mostly created by bricks. It has 4 floors, including one main floor and the three roof floors. The main floor has an eastward main entrance, decorated with a Siva God Statue and fire symbol. The other three sides of this floor are engraved with the local Gods in sitting positions. The three top floors have the same structure with a small tower on each corner that is decorated with a stone lotus and flame. Inside the tower is the 1.2m statue of Po Rome King, and beside it is a half- body statue of a woman that is called Queen Po Bia Sancan. Outside of the tower are the statue of Queen Sucih and the tomb of King Porome and his wives.

 

  • Hoa Lai Tower: Just a short trip from the south of Nha Trang City in Khanh Hoa Province, to Ninh Thuan Province, you will see Hoa Lai Tower which is located next to National Highway 1A at Bon Thap Village, Tan Hai Commune, Ninh Hai District.

 

  • Built in the early 19th century, the tower is situated on a rectangle-shaped piece of land that’s about 200 metres long and 125 metres wide. In the past, it consisted of three small towers, but there are only two left today.
  • According to art historians, Hoa Lai Tower is among the most ancient and beautiful historic monuments of the Cham people, an ethnic group in Southeast Asia. The people are concentrated between the Kampong Cham Province in Cambodia and central Vietnam’s Phan Rang-Thap Cham, Phan Thiet, Ho Chi Minh City and An Giang areas.
